I recently listened to an episode of The Above Board Podcast, and they brought up something that really hit home — the "man in the arena" analogy from Theodore Roosevelt.
If you’ve never heard it before, it’s basically about how the people who actually put themselves out there — who show up, try, risk failure, and get back up again — are the ones who matter most. It’s not the critics on the sidelines who’ve never tried, never failed, and never had the courage to step in the ring. It’s the person in the arena whose face is “marred by dust and sweat and blood.”
And man, that spoke to me.
What I’m doing right now with my business isn’t always glamorous. I’m not posting about every little move I make — every call, every message, every to-do list item — but behind the scenes, I’m staying consistent. I make calls to people in my database every single day. I try to show up for people in my community. I keep learning, keep growing, and keep pushing.
Some days are incredible — like the other day, when I had two closings in one day. That felt amazing. But then there are quieter months where I’ve questioned myself. Wondered if I made the right decision for myself and my family. Wondered where I might be now if I had made different choices.
But at the end of the day, I wouldn’t change a thing.
I know I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing. I believe in the work I’m doing. And I know if I keep showing up — day in and day out — it’ll all pay off.
So this is just a little encouragement, whether you’re in real estate, starting your own thing, or chasing a dream: stay in the arena. The road might be bumpy. People might not always see your effort. But that’s okay. You’re doing it. You’re trying. And that matters more than most people will ever understand.
