When most people hear "pickleball club," they picture a rec center with paddle racks and a water fountain. Hamlin House in Orlando's SoDo neighborhood is going to make you rethink that entirely.
I sat down with General Manager Ashley Turner recently, and within the first few minutes of our conversation it was clear — this place was built with intention. It's not just a place to play. It's a place to belong.
So What Actually Is Hamlin House?
Hamlin House is a private membership social club at 231 W. Grant Street in SoDo. Think seven pickleball courts — three indoor, four outdoor — paired with chef-driven dining, a full-service café, courtside service, and a social calendar that keeps the community connected long after the last match of the day. It's backed by Ryan and Michelle DeVos, the same family behind the Orlando Squeeze MLC franchise, and the vision is simple: sport, food, and community under one roof, done at the highest level.
They opened earlier this year and are already building a loyal membership base.
What Makes Someone Actually Join?
I asked Ashley what usually seals the deal when a potential member walks through the door, and her answer tied back to their motto perfectly — elevate every moment.
That philosophy shows up in everything. On the courts, they use cushioned surfaces that are the same standard found in professional pickleball leagues — your knees will thank you. And in the restaurant, they've partnered with the John Fraser Restaurant Group. If that name sounds familiar, it should — John Fraser is a Michelin-rated chef, and the culinary experience here reflects exactly that. This isn't a sports bar menu. This is the kind of dining that stands on its own, completely independent of the pickleball.
The service at Hamlin House is the kind that's hard to describe until you feel it — anticipatory, warm, and completely unpretentious. You're not being waited on. You're being taken care of.
What Does Orlando Not Know Yet?
This was my favorite moment of the conversation. When I asked Ashley what she wishes more people understood about Hamlin House, the answer was rooted in something deeper than amenities — it's the story behind the name.
Hamlin is actually the most popular juiced orange in Florida. By naming the club Hamlin House, the owners paid direct homage to Old Florida — and that connection to Florida's roots runs through everything about the place. The design, the feel, the culture — it's all Florida-inspired in a way that feels intentional rather than decorative.
And here's what might surprise people most: the membership is far more reasonable than you'd expect given everything you get. This isn't an exclusive club designed to keep people out. The whole point is to elevate everyone's experience, and the pricing reflects that mission.
Why This Matters for Orlando
Orlando is growing fast, and the people moving here — and the people who've been here — are looking for more than just a place to live. They want community. They want somewhere that reflects the kind of life they're building. Hamlin House fills a gap that honestly didn't know it existed until now.
